Ohio truck driver pleads guilty to manslaughter

Posted on May 26th, 2010 No Comments

An Ohio truck driver pleaded guilty this week to manslaughter for a December 12 truck accident that killed a woman on the New York State Thruway.

The driver was streaming pornography on his laptop prior to the crash, which occurred about 20 miles east of Buffalo. He was also sleep deprived at the time, according to authorities.

The woman had just hit a deer and was pulled over on the side of the highway when the tractor-trailer struck her car. She was killed instantly.

The 45-year-old trucker will be sentenced in September and faces prison time ranging from five to fifteen years.

New York City 311 director killed in accident

A 59-year-old Graniteville woman was fatally struck yesterday morning by a man from her neighborhood driving with a suspended license, according to police.

The 27-year-old driver was speeding through the neighborhood when he made a left turn from Morani onto Richmond at 6:47 a.m. and struck the woman as she was walking across the street.

The woman was the director of administration for the New York 311 system. Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who implemented the city help line, lauded her as “a dedicated, quintessential professional at the city’s 311 Call Center, and one of the thousands of unsung public servants who keep New York City running.”

NY police veteran critically injured after high speed chase

Posted on April 22nd, 2010 No Comments

A 6-year New York Police veteran was critically injured last night around 9 p.m. after the driver of a car fleeing from police rammed into his vehicle.

The chase began when police identified a car as stolen and attempted to pull the driver over. The operator of the stolen car instead sped up. Around the intersection of South Broadway and Main Street, an officer attempted to pull in front of the driver and impede his path. The driver slammed into the officer’s vehicle, totalling both cars.

The driver and the officer both had to be cut out of their vehicles. The officer was transported to Westchester Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Officials say that he has already undergone a number of surgeries but remains in critical condition today.

When police extracted the stolen car’s driver from the wreck, they were surprised to find that he was a 16-year-old Connecticut teenager. He faces serious charges once police have verified his identity.

Luckily nobody else was injured in this tragic accident. Reckless drivers are a serious danger to innocent drivers on the road. If you or someone you love has been the victim of a reckless driver, contact the New York reckless driving lawyers of Parker Waichman, LLP at 888-244-2273 today.
