NYPD veteran dies of motorcycle accident injuries

Posted on September 10th, 2010 No Comments

A 45-year-old NYPD veteran died in medical care at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx this Tuesday.

Andrew Sipp was a member of the New York Police Department’s Highway Patrol. While driving to work on his motorcycle the morning of April 4, he was forced to swerve violently to avoid a collision between two cars directly in front of him on the Bronx River Parkway.

The swerve cause Sipp to lose control of his bike, throwing him off. He sustained serious head injuries in the motorcycle accident despite wearing a helmet and was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center by officers of his own precinct.

Doctors there place Sipp in a medically induced coma in an attempt to prevent his death. Tuesday, 31 days later, he finally succumbed to his injuries.

Sipp leaves behind a 9-year-old daughter and wife. His daughter has cystic fibrosis and he and his wife spent countless hours raising money for the Greater New York chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and spreading awareness about the disease.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of Andrew Sipp.
