76-year old killed crossing Queens Blvd.

Posted on September 12th, 2010 No Comments

An elderly man was killed in a tragic pedestrian accident while walking across Queens Boulevard in Kew Gardens.  76-year old Robert Borchers was crossing the street when a marked Correction Department vehicle traveling southbound crashed into him around 5:30 AM last Friday.  Borchers was rushed to Jamaica Hospital where he passed away soon after.

A recent investigation by The Daily News tested whether or not the elderly had enough time to cross streets before the ‘do not walk’ signal turned on.  The study has people wondering whether or not Borchers started crossing the street with the right of way, but could not make it across in time.  Witnesses to the accident say Borchers had the right of way, while police officers say that he did not.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Borchers’ family and friends during this difficult time.
